Rationale
Article 1c of the Missions and Functions of Higher Education in the UNESCO’s World Declaration on Higher Education for the 21st Century, states that HEI’s must “advance, create and disseminate knowledge through research and provide, as part of its service to the community, relevant expertise to assist societies in cultural, social and economic development, promoting and developing scientific and technological research as well as research in the social sciences, the humanities and the creative arts”.
Research activities in Higher Education Institutions are not limited to the mere creation of knowledge. It is incumbent upon HEI’s to ensure translating research-based knowledge into practical utilization. Many researches in the academe unfortunately gather dusts in the library, failing to bridge the gap between generation and consumption of research. There is now a growing interest in addressing this issue that many terminologies have been used to describe the process, among these include, knowledge transfer, knowledge diffusion, knowledge mobilization, and dissemination among others. Thus the entire research processes must be able to generate, propagate, and translate knowledge as shown in the figure below:

Cognizant of the HEI’s responsibility of creating a distinct culture of research wherein part of which is bridging the gap in the research to practice continuum, the PASUC-NCR is committed to narrowing this gap through various research dissemination approaches such as holding of Research Fora. One of the primary goals of this proposed 2014 Higher Education Research Forum is not only to provide avenue for the dissemination of research findings but more importantly, provide opportunity for the discussion and interaction with target audience/stakeholders in order to facilitate research uptake in the policy-making processes and/or commercialization of viable research outputs.
objectives
1. Bring together faculty, researchers, and educational leaders of cross-disciplinary interests to exchange information on research and development, share research experiences and achievements, and disseminate research results in their distinctive areas of competence.
2. Provide colleagues with opportunity to explore research initiatives and partnerships and collaborations beyond their institutions.
3. Strengthen research capacity of higher education institutions (HEI’s) particularly the state colleges and universities in the National Capital Region.
